Hem Your Clothes Like a Pro

This class will teach you how to sew a variety of professional-looking hems, from hand-sewn invisible hems to machine-sewn mitered hems!
Sign up for this class if you're a beginner or intermediate sewist who's interested in elevating their garment construction, mending, or tailoring skills by learning the correct hems for the correct fabrics and projects.

Supplies, available at Grant House Sewing Center:
Standard sewing machine (capable of straight stitch and blind hem stitch; variable stitch length and width; variable needle positions; 2 thread capacity)
Presser feet: standard/zig-zag foot, zipper foot, narrow edge foot, blind hem foot, and 1/4" seam foot
Machine needles, double needle
Hand sewing supplies
Fabric for samples, for example 2-3 fat quarters
5/8" Stitch Witchery
Bias tape
Pins
Chalk
Tape Measure
Seam Gauge
Seam ripper
Sewing scissors
Thread

Instructor Bio: | Elizabeth Vana Bryant is a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Fitting Instructor. She teaches in-person classes in Southern California, and virtual classes internationally through the magic of Zoom. She has been sewing for over 50 years, and has specialized in garment fitting and couture construction for over two decades. She has studied couture sewing under Susan Khalje and is the founding leader of the American Sewing Guild Los Angeles Chapter's Couture Group.
