House Hunting Quilt with Bee Saunders

This quilt comes together quickly to make a lovely wall hanging. The houses and trees are easy to piece together, and then you combine them with a background to make a fun little village. This workshop will cover piecing, layout, quilting, binding, and finishing touches so you will have a finished project ready to hang on the wall. See samples in store. 

3 Saturdays, September 5, 12, 19, 10:30-1:30.  There will be extra sewing to do between sessions. 

Session 1 - piecing houses and trees
Session 2 - layout, basting and prep for quilting
Session 3 - hanging sleeve, binding, label

Fabric required:
1 yard background - I recommend a solid, or a non-directional, tone-on-tone print
1 yard backing fabric, inc. extra for the hanging sleeve
¼ yard binding fabric
Batting measuring at least 24x24” (I like an 80:20 cotton:polyester, or 100% cotton)
Assorted scraps for the houses and trees:
 gives you plenty of choice and spare for swaps with classmates!

• You can use as many different fabrics as you like (upto twenty!), or repeat some of them
• I like solids, though small scale prints work too. Use realistic or whimsical fabrics as you prefer!
• A fat quarter will provide fabric for several components, and even small scraps can be used!
• Aim for 1-2 yards in total in a range of colours and values - this gives you plenty of choice and spare for swaps with classmates!

Other tools needed:
Sewing machine, inc. power cord, foot pedal, basic piecing foot, walking foot, extension table, extra needles
Neutral coloured thread for piecing, as well as desired quilting thread, and matching thread in bobbin
Rotary cutter, large cutting mat and quilting rulers - I most commonly use 6½x6½”, 6x12” and 6x24”
Basic sewing tools (small scissors or snips, stiletto, seam ripper, pins, marking tool…)
Roxanne’s Glue-Baste It
Safety pins or spray for basting (or fusible batting)
Paper and pencil for note taking
