Fashion Club for Kids and Teens
at Grant House Sewing Center

Each purchase is for 4 weekly sessions. If possible, please sign up well in advance. 
Kids (Ages 8–12): 3:30–5:30 PM Monday, Wednesday and Friday 

Teens (Ages 13–17): 5:30-7:30 PM Monday and Tuesday

Fashion Club is a unique program for kids and teens, thoughtfully developed by fashion designer and educator Anzhela
Martynava. This program offers students ongoing education in the art of making clothing within a caring environment.
Running from September through May, Fashion Club develops creativity and skills step by step, ensuring students'
growth and enjoyment throughout the school year. We welcome new students as well as those returning from last year.
 
Fashion Club focuses on a list of knowledge and skills:

  • Designer room/ work room flow
  • Tools and materials for creating garmens
  • First knowledge of operating a sewing machine
  • Textile and cutting techniques
  • Iron and ironing techniques
  • Sketching as idea visualisation
  • Basic skills of pattern making
  • Steps of creating a garment from concept to product
  • Machine stitches and hand sewing
  • Introduction to the overlock
  • Heat transfer for a t-shirt
  • Basic knowledge about the Fashion Show as a representation of a complete concept
In addition, teens will also explore:

  • Expanded knowledge of textiles and innovation in the textile industry.
  • Understanding of natural and manufactured fibers
  • Fashion Illustration and Technical Drawing
  • Basic knowledge of collection development
  • Steps of putting a zipper in pants, skirts, and jackets (closed-end and open-end zippers)
  • Pockets
  • Buttons and buttonholes
  • Skills working on overlock/serger and coverstitch machines
  • Introduction to embroidery machines
  • Christmas Market as a play model of the business aspect of fashion
  • The Fashion Show as a self-expression platform

Supplies Needed:

  1.  Sketch book
  2.  Pencils
  3.  Markers
  4.  1-inch binder for stitch book
  5.  Pellon 815 Red Dot Tracing Material
  6.  One yard of muslin 60 inches wide
  7.  Fabric of student choice for the project (don't forget to wash fabric)
  8. Matchng thread
  9.  One yard of elastic
  10.  2-3 zippers (7-9 inches long)
  11. Additional trims
