Sales Associate

Grant House Sewing Center has been a center for creative growth and innovation in Santa Barbara for the past 46 years. Our clients span from impassioned home sewists and makers to large universities and international corporations. We’ve recently expanded our offerings from sewing machines and service to a large range of products that includes fabrics, notions, and tools. As a Sales Associate on our team, you will be part of our fun, team-oriented retail culture. Our sales associates provide excellent customer experiences by greeting and assisting our customers with cutting fabric, ringing up sales, answering phones, and taking sewing machines in and out for service. 

Job Description:

• Greeting customers when they enter

• Helping customers by assessing their needs, recommending appropriate products and/or services, and performing entry-level sewing machine sales 

• Teaching basic sewing machine skills such as threading, bobbin winding, and stitches on domestic sewing machines

• Help customers by cutting fabric, locating products, ringing up sales

• Entering sewing machines in for servicing and returning them for pick up upon request

• Keep the store neat and tidy during slow periods of time when customers are still looking around

• Inventory checks and stocking as needed: backstock put out to sell, etc

• Collaborate and work with other team members

• High attention to detail; ability to juggle many priorities and manage execution

We’re interested in people who have:

• A friendly demeanor, punctual, organized, with a calm and reassuring manner and the ability to deal with the occasional difficult customer

• The ability to multitask, good follow-through and finish tasks

• Good communication skills, basic computer skills

• The ability to carry up to 25 pounds and being physically able to be on one’s feet for extended periods of time

• Basic sewing skills are also required

• Spanish speaking is preferred
